The Harry Potter franchise is a series that a wide array of people hold dear to their hearts. This is for good reason as much of the fans were quite young when it first was released. It was if they were all friends that stood by this trio, Harry, Ron and Hermonie, during the high and low times of their life. After Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Pt 2 was released in theaters, I think it is safe to say that the fanbase was satisfied with the finale of Harry and his friend’s journey. But just like fans of any property, Harry Potter fans wanted to see more from the wizarding world that JK Rowling created outside of the mainstay location of the UK. To her credit, she published other works on her website but it didn’t seem to satiate the desire to see another film. Cue the creation of the film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them as the beginning of a new journey within JK Rowling’s world.
This film follows the escapades of Newt Scamander, a British wizard that enters America during the 1920’s, as he goes from a wrangler and researcher of magical animals to a hero in his own right. What makes this entry rather interesting is that, while it does take its name from an actual book within the Harry Potter universe, it is not based off of the content within. Everything seen on screen is new for everyone. Okay, I’ve explained everything long enough. What did I think? Honestly, it was a very solid film that intelligently expands the lore of JK Rowling’s book and movie series. Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterson, Dan Folger and Alison Sudol did excellent jobs bringing their characters to life. Even when the story itself seems to slow down at times, they acted their butts of to keep everyone entertained.
While I do think that the story slowed down at times, everything else was so damn entertaining that I don’t think I can really complain. There are scenes that will make you laugh, there are moments where you might cry, but there will definitely be moments where you will cheer. JK Rowling has a great creative mind that will never be truly matched by any other writer. The director and production staff did a spectacular job bringing the vision to life without overwhelming the audience. Go see it if you get the chance, especially if you’re a Harry Potter film. If you’ve never seen a film and want to give it a shot, I think you’ll find something to like.
Thanks for reading. I’ve been Superguy and you’ve been awesome!
