Hey everyone. I admit that I was putting my energy elsewhere and am doing this post pretty last minute. To make up for my idiocy, let me give you some recommendations as what to watch or read to prepare for the upcoming Power Rangers movie. Ready? Here we go:
These movies have a ton of problems, but are still charming in the way that the Power Rangers show can be. I personally prefer Turbo, but the original film has some great moments as well. Give these antiques a proper road show and get all PBS up in this bitch.
The film that arguably laid the ground for the new Power Rangers to get made. Give it a watch if you haven’t already, especially if you’re a Guillermo Del Toro fan. Side note: Also watch Hellboy. No reason needed, it’s just good.
A diverse group of individuals come together to save the world from an alien threat. Gotta give this one a watch before seeing the same film except with moody teenagers in
My favorite pair of giant robot vs giant monster movies. Basically, Japan uses the original bones of Godzilla to fight off a new King of the Monsters that arose a few years prior. Throw Mothra into the mix for the second one and you have yourself an epic evening planned for yourself.
Kyle Higgins is an excellent writer and a pretty big Power Rangers fan, so it makes sense that he would be given free reign on the newest run from Boom! Studios. His series gives us teenagers with actual attitude deal with threats so intense you’ll be at the edge of your seat until the end of the ride. Also, the back up stories with Bulk and Skull are pretty funny breaks from the main story that help you breathe during the crazier moments.
This goes without saying, but you need to see the episode that began it all. Teenagers with attitude, ancient space witches and dinosaur mechanics. If you can, try to watch it on the oldest television you can to get that real experience.
There is a ton more that I could recommend, but I’d like to leave room for you guys and gals to throw out some more ideas. Comment below if you think I left something out and state why we should give it a read/watch/listen before witnessing the new film. I’ve been Superguy and you’ve been morph-tacular!
